Jeep claim it invented the premium SUV with the original Grand Cherokee but i always thought the Range Rover was the first posh off-roader, anyway im not here to argue but to review the new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
One of the main problem faced by a big luxurious 4×4 car company is quite a few are out already and a few of those are pretty good, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has to compete with the likes of BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery, Volkswagen Touareg, and even some of the cheaper Range Rover Sports model. All this means it have to work pretty hard to tempt you to part with your cash.
You can spot the new Grand Cherokee by its face, the revised rather notably thanks to its new bold styling and shining chrome. The Grand Cherokee will have Pentastar 3.6 V6 VVT as its engine producing 290 horsepower with 0 – 100km in 7.5 seconds and its also comes pair with 8 speed automatic transmission gearbox. People that have driven the car said the gearbox is decent and very smooth and its quite happy to drop down a couple of gears when you need the extra burst of accelerations. The air suspensions set-up is very good and makes the car a very composed cruiser at highway speed.
When you get inside of the front car you noticed it is as spacious as you thought it was going to be as you approach its bulkiness walking to it, plenty of headroom. This is not the old Jeep model back in the day, the new Grand Cherokee have a high quality set-up and its meant to be luxurious.
When you look at the centre of the front cabin, you will noticed a huge Uconnect 8.4- inch touchscreen navigation and media console. This is Garmin oriented navs system, its very capable and one of the easiest to used in the auto industry.
Its also good with carrying luggage with among the biggest boot in SUV even though there is a full size spare wheel underneath it, but there is something missing back here and thats is a third row of seats, pretty much everyone on Jeep rival offers seven seat options but Jeep can only fit five people in here. To carry a larger item you can certainly fold down the rear seats, now the rear seats are fold down quite flat making the loading much easier and faster. This is a fairly big cars, so it goes without saying there is a huge amount of room at the back seats, you got plenty of headroom and there is plenty of legroom, so you can get three adults across the back without any problem.
There is much to recommend the Jeep. It is a great cruiser and that eight speed gearbox is smooth and relax, its also a fantastic value, factor the amount of equipment that you get and it is much cheaper car to buy than its rivals. That is the beauty of the Grand Cherokee SUV because a premium SUV with a good value for money seem like an oxymoron but this Jeep proved that is not.
